Maldives: choosing the right resort

Transfer type matters more than the villa. Speedboat resorts are cheaper to reach and flexible on arrival times; seaplane resorts are further out, quieter, and only operate in daylight.

If snorkelling matters, prioritise a resort with a genuine house reef over one with only a sandy lagoon — the difference is far bigger than any room upgrade.

Meal plans quietly decide the final bill. All-inclusive usually wins on remote islands where there is no alternative restaurant.
